Product Information

Where is Lime Tree Design jewellery made?

Our chains are made by a family run business in Italy. Our lockets are made by hand in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter which is also where our plating is done as well as some of our casting. Some of our casting and semi precious stone work is done at our trusted workshop in Jaipur.

What are the birthstones associated with each month?

January – garnet, February – amethyst, March – aqua, April – rock crystal, May – emerald, June – moonstone/pearl, July – ruby, August – peridot, September – lapis, October – opal/pink tourmaline, November – citrine, December – turquoise.

Why are my birthstones not identical to the ones on the photo?

We use natural semi precious stones which means that the colour of each stone varies slightly. We try our best to match to the colour shown on our website.

What is 18ct gold and rose gold vermeil?

Vermeil is 18 carat gold or rose gold plated on a sterling silver base. It’s a surface treatment and will fade over time. Please see below for how to look after it.

What chain length should I buy?

The most popular chain length is 18". This length sits nicely on most people. We generally find that younger customers do sometimes opt for the 16" and 18" lengths whilst our older customers may prefer 18" and longer. It also depends on the size of the charm, pendant or locket - smaller pieces suit shorter lengths whilst we only offer larger lockets and pendants on longer chains. If you do opt for the wrong chain length we are always happy to exchange it for another, please just contact us.

What jewellery is hallmarked?

In the UK, any sterling silver jewellery weighing over 7.78 grams needs to be hallmarked by law which means that most of our lockets and some of our larger charms are hallmarked. This is done in either Birmingham or Edinburgh Assay Office using our Lime Tree Design hallmark so you can be confident of its quality. All of our solid gold lockets, charms and stud earrings are hallmarked.

What is Lime Tree Design jewellery made from?

All of our jewellery is made from solid sterling silver, 18ct gold or rose gold vermeil and 14ct solid gold. Our jewellery is all nickel free.

What are Lime Tree Design lavender fish and birds made from?

Our fish, birds and hearts are stuffed, sewn and eyed by hand in our village. We use Liberty Tana Lawn and 100% silk dupion. Our lavender is sourced from the Provence region of France.

How do I use my Lime Tree Design lavender sachets?

Our lavender sachets are not toys. They are perfect for placing in drawers, wardrobes or linen cupboards or anywhere the moths need to kept at bay! They’re also great hostess gifts. Lavender is ideal for promoting relaxation, calmness and sleep. The scent is long lasting however scrunching the sachets will refresh the scent. Please do not use essential oils on them as this will damage the fabric.

Aftercare

How do I look after my jewellery?

A jewellery care card is included in each jewellery order sent out. Sterling silver naturally oxidises and will eventually tarnish, please rub with a silver cloth to restore its finish. These can be purchased from our website. Take extra care around stones and pearls. Please do not use metal cleaners on vermeil as this may remove plate. Instead use a soft, lint free cloth. Be careful when storing your jewellery, use acid free tissue paper, a zip lock bag or pendant box to minimise moisture and light exposure. Be careful with sun cream or perfumes and always remove jewellery before swimming or bathing.

Can I send my jewellery for re-plating?

Yes, we do provide a re-plating service. There is a listing for this in the ‘Extras’ section of the jewellery dropdown menu. We charge £15 for this, you must also cover the return postage costs. The piece should be sent to us at the address on our Contact page. Please include your details in the package.
